Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is looking for people to become Contingency Control Crew (CCC) to help keep local people safe in the event of industrial action or spate conditions within East Riding of Yorkshire, Hull, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire.

There will be no average day for a member of our Contingency Crew. This role involves mobilising operational crews to fires or a road traffic collision and helps save lives by supporting the emergency response of fire and rescue cover to the people of Humberside. The Contingency Crew will be called on for any periods of industrial action or for spate conditions.

There may be a requirement to work 2 consecutive shifts (up to 12 hours each shift). Therefore, a Contingency Control Crew member could work for 24 hours with appropriate rest periods included. We will provide you with an intensive training programme and all of the support you will need. You will work in teams drawn from people who you will train with, and this will include some of our experienced staff.

Pay:

  • £10.49 per hour during initial period of training
  • £20.99 per hour for deployment during industrial action
  • £13.99 per hour for deployment in all other spate conditions
  • Travelling expenses at £0.45/Mile
  • £1612 annual retainer payable monthly

Contract type:

Four hours per month to attend training and then ‘as and when required’ according to service need during industrial action or spate conditions.

Location:

Your working location will be working within a 15 minutes footprint of Humberside Fire & Rescue Service Headquarters, HU4 7BB

Training (Please note you must be available to attend an initial five-day training course)

  • Take part in a continuous training programme by attending theoretical training sessions, exercises and other forms of training to maintain competence levels
  • Attend one four hour training session per month.

Minimum requirements:

You are required to:

  • Undertake an interview
  • Undertake practical tests to assess aptitude
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills
  • Be IT literate
  • Be calm, professional and compassionate whilst under pressure

Successful applicants are required to undertake a Basic Disclosure check and provide references.

Please note: This is not a full-time Control Room Operator role, it is to provide cover during periods of staff shortages including industrial action and spate conditions such as extreme weather events, etc.
