We are recruiting Full-Time Firefighters.

To be a Firefighter requires special skills and qualities, not only do you need effective communication skills to support the public at safety events and in their homes, you will also possess exceptional team working and people skills for use at operational incidents and in other environments.

The role of the Fire and Rescue Service has changed incredibly in the last few years with the role of the Firefighter developing and evolving. If you are a creative problem solver who can respond to a changing set of varied circumstances, in a thoughtful and conscientious way, then you might want to consider us for your future career. We deal with everything from environmental issues like floods and storms to attending an increasing number of health-related incidents. We, therefore, expect our Firefighters to be even more adaptable and creative than ever before. You will need to be a good listener and possess excellent communication skills.

More Key dates and information

  • You must be physically capable of meeting the demands of the work and be aged 18 years or over as of 12 April 2023.
  • You must also be available for the key stages in the process as follows and you must be available to attend on one day within each stage:
  • 8 to 16 November 2022: Firefighter practical tests including swim and bleep tests
  • 28 November to 9 December 2022: Interviews
  • January to February 2023: Fitness tests and medicals

Please note that candidates will not be able to commence their registration until the process opens at 1200 noon on Tuesday 20 September 2022. The link will only become available at that time.
