On this page you will find a summary of the messages of thanks we have received in 2022.
January
I would just like to say how much my partner and I appreciate the work of the fire officers. On New Years Eve there was a fire at our property and due to the quick reactions of neighbours seeing the fire and calling the fire service, and the quick response of the firefighters, it wasn’t more serious than it could have potentially been. My partner, myself and our 2 year old were in the property fast asleep while someone set fire to a motorbike against our fence, setting it on fire which then spread to our trees; we had no idea of what had happened until the next morning as we didn’t hear a thing. We were told by the neighbour that if it had been 10 minutes more it would have been a lot more serious so we are massively grateful to those firefighters on duty that night for everything they did. The way we look at it is they have saved our home and potentially our lives with their fast response, I don’t hear people talking enough about the fire service and they really should be, those guys are hero’s in our eyes.
A local councillor and his son went to Bransholme Fire Station with a Christmas Day hamper for Green watch. He said "I am the newly elected councillor so wanted to show them they are remembered for all they do. My son thought they were amazing! Regards"
Thank you to the crew that took time out their busy schedules this evening to drive their truck around lakeside in Scunthorpe. We always look forward to seeing them each year and nice that some were on foot tonight and got to speak to the children. My little boy was so happy to put his donation in the tub and speak to the firefighter.
We received a telephone call from a gentleman who had an incident on 6 January at Daisy Hill in Burstwick which 5 fire engines attended, and he would like to thank Jamie who looked after him during the incident.
“I have just completed the online behavioural assessment, I am enjoying this process and, regardless of the outcome, I would like to thank you for the opportunity. I popped into Clough Road Station today to speak with a member of staff regarding recruitment and he couldn’t have been more helpful. I also stopped 2 firefighters a few months ago at Lidl and they were the same, they all seemed to be VERY helpful and very generous with time and information. It really was a positive interaction.”
Thank you Toni Proctor for your support and advice given during your visit to Cottingham Memorial Club.
February
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Emma Smith made some loombands to show staff at Humberside Fire and Rescue Service that there are people in the community supporting and thinking of them. Emma wanted to make loombands to show staff that they are not alone during the pandemic. Thank you.
We had a great morning with Scunthorpe Blue Watch on Monday and the children haven't stopped talking about it. Thank you for sharing an insight into your profession - we have some very inspired children - and staff! The children have made you a card and in it they have shared their favorite part of the visit.
March
I just wanted to pass on our thanks to you and the Immingham East Fire Station crew, for allowing 1st Healing Cubs to visit the fire station on 7 February.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend due to COVID, but the pack told me all about their visit and it was clear to see that they were very impressed and had ‘the best time ever’ and most importantly, learnt all about fire safety. The Cubs are currently working on their very own special thankyou to the station crew, which I will get out to them as soon as they have finished.
So again, a very big THANKYOU to everyone involved in making this a very special visit and a memorable badge to earn – its so important to vary the ways in which they learn and it was very much appreciated.”
Thank you to Jo Jessop for promoting the Lung Health Checks at North Point Shopping Centre. The initial feedback that we have received has all be really positive, both about the service being in North Hull and also the numbers who are contacting the team after receiving a letter to book appointments. Bransholme Green Watch from Angi Daley. Thank you so much for your prompt help and support yesterday with the above job you completed fitting five smoke detectors in a very vulnerable and at risk property. Due to the complex needs of the family this has been a great help and given them piece of mind until the council can complete the further repairs to help to make this family safer. The family would like to ‘’Thank the crew, myself and Molly for the support they have received.’
Jo Jessop and Allan Bell received a thank you from Pat Tuohy and his team from PMNW and Marvel College. Great pupil and teacher feedback.
April
A member of the public wanted to thank all those personnel in the fire service for the work carried out in the lockdown and throughout the pandemic. She took time out to travel to Central to make a donation gift of a box of sweets she had personally bought from Amazon.
Rachael Smith and colleagues did a great job of welcoming two people from Going Forward into Employment. They both raved about the visit and stated how well your team communicated with them in a way that fully acknowledged learning disabilities but concentrated on ability and active participation. It was also noted that they learnt a lot about the health improvement and protection work you do too. Awesome support, thank you!

To Calvert Lane Green Watch, a little boy's father said, "I'm really lost where to even start here... The hospitality your guys showed us at Calvert Lane Station was second to none, they all went above and beyond for our children and ourselves too. To say it has made his birthday special is an understatement.... We've never seen so much excitement on our boys face, he is infatuated with the whole fire brigade. Bless him. Honestly, I do not think any thanks we give will ever show our gratitude for allowing our family into your station and to be made to feel welcome into your big family, May we take this opportunity to show our appreciation and wish all in the service a safe service. Many thanks for keeping us all safe you all do an amazing job. Please find attached pictures from today and feel free to use them for any purpose that will help your services.. He has fallen asleep on the way home as all the excitement has tired him out.
I just wanted to congratulate the Humberside Fire & Rescue team at Bransholme Station for their fast response. Within two minutes of ringing 999, the crew was at the scene and had put the fire out. I know this wasn't much and was only a small fire, but the quick response was so impressive and prevented the fire getting any larger. Thankyou to you all for your hard work and effort in the area, especially on the night when all the fires are being set by youths. I myself hope to become a firefighter soon, and am impressed at the response times and hard work of the service in my area.
Thank you to Central White Watch. My disabled wife and I thank them for their swift attendance, the team were courteous and thorough.
Thank you to all those who attended an incident in Moody Lane. I would like to say thank you to Peaks Lane Fire Station for all their best efforts in helping my dad who unfortunately passed away.

July
Red Watch from Peaks Lane visited Waltham Leas Primary Academy on 6 July, and the staff and children would like to pass on a huge thank you from Honey Bee and Butterfly classes. The firefighters were absolutely fantastic with the children and pitched the visit at just the right level for Foundation Stage. The visit was a great addition to our real-life superhero week and I know it is something the children will be talking about for some time to come.
Thank you to Kieren Garner and Jo Clark for coming along and Jo for being on the panel and for her comeback on women having a political view.
Thanks for letting me do my work experience here and giving me great opportunities to develop my skills. It's been really fun and I hope to see you all again soon.
Thank you all for attending Beverley Grammar on 11/7/22. Apart from a small number of disruptive students I though the day went well. That is completely down to you and the workshops you deliver. We got great feedback from both pupils and staff. Thank you again.
Thanks for attending Sirius North. Another extremely hot and sticky day. As ever your professionalism shone through despite the circumstances. Fantastic feedback from both pupils and teachers. As far as I am concerned, that was my last crime day in Hull this term. You're support has been much appreciated by myself and the pupils you present to. Hopefully I will see you in September after the summer holidays.
Even though I got it wrong about thinking I saw a young seagull in distress, I appreciate your kindness when you spoke to me, I have to laugh about it now, I posted a note through there door to tell them there's some flashing fallen off near the guttering, as they might want to repair it before winter, thank you again for coming out, your a brilliant caring team.
Message of thanks from a grateful resident who has asked to pass on her sincere thanks following a safe and well visit, and that the crew were great and WM Turner went through the advice and was brilliant. Thank You!!! … East Hull Red.

A member of the public submitted a thankyou letter to Gav Molloy. "Harvey had the best time, thank you so much for your help. Honestly, they had a call out so we had to leave early, but he wasn't bothered he loved every minute of it. I appreciate all the time and effort to be able to make it happen from yourself and the firemen. An 8 year olds dream was fulfilled today and memories was made."
Good morning Aiden, I would just like to sincerely thank all of the fire service for the efforts during our recent incident. All the team throughout Ellgia are truly grateful for the prompt response we received, and we were happy as an on site team to assist where possible. As you’d expect we do not ever want these situations to happen but unfortunately, we found ourselves facing them. Without the expertise of your team things could have become much worse. Please pass on A BIG thank you to all concerned.
I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the fire team who attended our NSPCC summer fun event yesterday. Everyone was absolutely brilliant- the children loved it and it was great to see everyone getting involved with the activities and having fun with the children. It really made for wonderful partnership working to make the event a success- thank you!
A team visited my parents bungalow at 1.13am, as my step dad had fallen out of his mobility chair and my mum messaged me to see if I could come help get him into bed. I couldn't lift him. I just want to thankyou Jodie and the rest of the team for helping us so much. Wouldn't have been able to get him up without your help. We are truly grateful and we cannot thankyou enough.
Hi, we would just like to express our most sincere thanks to all the crews who came out yesterday afternoon/evening at the large field fires near Luddington, North Lincolnshire. Your crews were fantastic in tackling the blaze and getting it under control as it got a little bit too close for comfort. We were evacuated from our property as a precaution and due to the winds helping to push the fire closer to our home. Everyone was immensely professional in dealing with this incident and we just wanted to pass on our heartfelt thanks. Our most sincere and grateful thanks.
A message for North East Lincolnshire "I just want to say a massive thank you, for all your support yesterday – we had a great turn out and lots of positive feedback from community members. The event wouldn’t have been able to happen without you and your team, (please share this with relevant members of your team), if you have any feedback yourselves, it will be greatly received. I look forward to inviting you to future events and working in partnership."
Hi, I just wanted to make an apology and say thank you to the call handler who dealt with my frantic call this evening. My dogs were trapped inside my house whilst it was burning and I argued that I was going back in to save them, I am sorry I seemed I wasn't listening to her instructions, I was just completely panicked and my dogs are my children, my whole world. I didn't get far past the front door because of the smoke. I handed your call taker over to my neighbour because I wasn't able to take in anything being said to me, I don't even know if I was able to give the address. I'm sorry but I was just screaming, I couldn't think of what else to do. And thank you to your crews, all of my dogs are safe alive, I can't thank them enough for what they have done. they saved my dogs life and that was my main concern. I know to some people dogs are just pets but I am unable to have my own children, and my dogs are my children. Because of your crews, including your called handler, they are safe and well and still here with me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart x.
September
Around 2200 hrs. Tuesday 16th August 2022 a relative had fallen in her home and was unable to get up even with the assistance of an ambulance crew and others. Your officers did a marvellous job of reassuring her and getting her into bed. Their calm, considerate yet assertive manor was a credit to both themselves and the Service. A week later on Tuesday 23rd August the same lady sadly died in her bedroom. Her removal to the mortuary at HRI was it seems, beyond everyone except yourselves. A Station Officer attended and assessed the situation, he was the epitome of professionalism and arranged a specialist crew. They arrived, dealt with a very difficult situation, completed the handover and left in what can only be described as a fantastic operation. On behalf of the whole family I thank you.
We wanted to email to say thank you so much and to commend your organisation's hospitality and care of our research team last week. Your team was supportive, welcoming and professional. We are very grateful for the use of your estate and resources as well as the support of your staff too. We commend your staff's hospitality to you and wanted to pass on our good wishes and positive feedback regarding your staff.
I'm writing to let you know about a visit that my 4 year old son had to Immingham fire station where some members of white watch showed him around and let him look at lots of engines and equipment. My son says he would like to be a firefighter when he is older and so this visit meant a lot to him. I would like to mention Jon Thompson and Paul Kellington who gave up their time to answer his questions. Another member of the watch also spent some time but I did not catch his name. The team were very patient and the visit went above and beyond what we expected, leaving us with one happy boy.
To White Watch firefighters Peaks Lane: Thankyou so much for visiting us at the Lisle Marsden Childcare, we loved your visit and learnt lots. Love from, Red group and Blue group.

Pete`s son was severely injured in an industrial accident which required crews from White Watch Central and Clough road to carry out a rescue from a trench using equipment from the RSU. Pete`s son, said he was treat with the greatest of care, compassion and most of all how professional the crews worked together as a team to extricate him to an awaiting ambulance.

An enormous thank you to the firefighters who happened to be refuelling when I pulled into a BP garage with a flat tyre late this afternoon. Such wonderful lads who changed my tyre and would not accept a thank you drink. You are absolute super stars and made this granny from Whitby very happy. I so appreciate your kindness. Thank you.
Good afternoon, I just wanted to say a big thank you to Jay Appleby for coming to my house this afternoon to give a talk about fire safety and prevention. I was very impressed.

November
Many thanks to the amazing team of firemen that came out to us tonight in Wandsford when my car locked itself with the keys and kids inside!! Feel like we kind of wasted your time but the kids would still be in the car if it wasn’t for you guys! Thank you so much!
Thank you to both you and Jon for the session yesterday. It was great and hopefully it will make a difference and get children thinking. I will make sure that the presentation is shared across the school - again another great resource. If you could say thank you to Jon and Aston.
Councillors from NE Lincolnshire Council recently (Wed 2nd) visited Peakes lane Station Grimsby. May I congratulate you and the team of Green watch Firefighters for a very impressive visit. The reception and formal briefing by Jo Clark was very informative and pitched at the right level for Councillors to absorb. I must thank John Henderson and the station GM Steve Hellowen alongside SM Steve Bray for the sterling support provided to us. The firefighters engaged at all levels and are a credit to the watch. I was impressed by their youth and knowledge. The station is in need of refurbishment. The boat house, though impressive, is a converted garage I believe converted on self help. As you are aware Peakes Lane station services a wide area of Grimsby and Cleethorpes and deserves to be maintained to a high standard. Whilst during the visit a “shout” occurred, we are all impressed with the calm, collective and responsible response from the watch. On behalf of the Councillors I cannot impress on you the professionalism of your fire fighters. They are a credit to HFRS.
As the manager of the Safer Roads Humber Partnership, I would like to thank you for the support given to our casualty reduction day on 8th November 2022. I was surprised at the number of teams that were able to operate on the day at fairly short notice and impressed with the coverage we had throughout the county in relation to the extraction demonstrations and the speed boards. Your help and support contributed to a very successful day, to raise the profile of the dangers of speeding and for road safety in general, which all contributes to casualty reduction. The engagement and education of the public, especially the younger generation is vital to changing the mind-set of road users. An important part of our day was the media involvement. Whether this was on radio or social media, the messages had a large reach to many in our area. It is important to keep the media messages going to change driver behaviour and gain further support for our collective work to reduce casualties. I would ask that where possible you engage with your media unit to promote road safety. It is clear the large majority of the public are behind road safety and your collective work is invaluable towards behaviour change. I am grateful for your contribution and wish you all the best for your future activity and look forward to our continued great working relationship with the service.
Hi Just a message of sincere thanks to Jay & Joe who attended in their Falls service capacity to respond to my father in law after having a fall at home. They worked as a fabulous team. Really kind, compassionate, considerate, and professional throughout their time helping Wilf. They waited over three hours until 8pm when the ambulance service arrived and made every effort to support Wilf. This is such a fantastic service and clearly staffed by the very best of people, the service should be very proud of them both. Thank them for their help and making everything look effortless.
December
Just like to say a massive thank you to Red Watch. They attended my brother in law today 6/12/22 . He had a fall and had been on the floor nearly 18 hours. They were able to sit him up after having moved mobility scooter, getting him more comfortable. Oxygen given also. Stayed till ambulance arrived. They were so helpful/supportive/ patient. Many thanks! Looks like you may be the new 1st responders! All family so very grateful.
Dear Sue and colleagues, I am writing to thank you for your recent visits to our school. We are very grateful that you could come in to deliver such an important talk to our students and we hope to welcome you back in the future. Many thanks once again.
This was for Red Watch Calvert Lane who attended a Car Fire at Skipsea Beach and Social club on the 3rd December 2022 whilst on standby at Hornsea Fire Station. Thankyou to the crew for their speed at getting to the incident and dealing with my car which had caught fire. Also, for spending the time to sit with me after the incident to reassure him everything had been made safe. -David, Pontefract.
