Team is a 12-week personal development programme providing young people with the opportunity to gain new skills, achieve qualifications and meet new people. The course is for young people aged between 16-25 who aren’t currently in employment, education or training. During the 12-week programme, young people are challenged to:
Take on their own group community project, making a positive difference to their local area
Take part in an action packed out of bounds residential trip
Complete two weeks’ work experience in an area of interest
Develop their English and Maths skills
During the course, time is spent developing the young people’s interview and CV-writing skills to assist them when taking their next step. Confidence, team-working and communication skills are developed as young people partake in each stage of the programme.
Get Started provides an opportunity for 16-25 year olds who are currently out of work, education or training to take part in a week of focused activities. Prince’s Trust work with a variety of partners including the Premier League, ASOS and Sony to complete the programmes. Young people work towards a group challenge which links to the content of the course while developing their skills and confidence.
The young people celebrate everything they’ve achieved throughout the week with a special event on the final day. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service have delivered a number of Get Started with Emergency Response courses with an underlying theme of health, fitness and wellbeing. Young people partake in drill sessions throughout the week alongside First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, drug and alcohol awareness training and nutritional input before performing a pass-out parade on the final day. The celebration event allows the young people to showcase their achievements to an invited audience including their family and friends.
The young people benefit from one-to-one support to help formulate an action plan following completion of the course. Additionally, there is an organised reunion event shortly after the course which offers opportunities for next steps and encourages the young people to progress into something positive.
