Contract Type: Permanent, 37 hours per week

Salary: Grade 5 (£25,183 to £25,584)

Location: Humberside Fire & Rescue Service, Service Headquarters, Hull

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service are looking for a highly organised and motivated individual to join our Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) and Organisational Learning Teams. This role is pivotal in supporting HFRS and Humberside Police to maintain safe, legally compliant, and continuously improving working environments.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in administrative responsibilities and compliance, coordinating data reporting, system management, and supporting the implementation of safety policies and learning processes.

  • Excellent administration skills
  • The ability to deal with general queries
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Packages including Excel, Word and Outlook
  • An eye for detail and the ability to prioritise workloads
  • The ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team
  • A flexible approach and can-do attitude to help the team with other tasks detailed in the Job Description
  • Ideally experience of minute taking (desirable)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate first-line advice on HSE matters, escalating complex queries where required.
  • Extract, analyse and present data for safety boards using systems such as Power BI and SpheraCloud (internal H&S system).
  • Coordinate administrative processes linked to safety investigations, audits, risk assessments and reporting.
  • Support HSE equipment calibration, vehicle booking, room coordination, and training logistics.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports for incident data, environmental controls, and staff induction.
  • Oversee communications through shared inboxes and respond to queries with professionalism.
  • Support the development and delivery of IOSH training, including administration of learner progress.
  • Contribute to organisational learning by tracking debrief actions and maintaining SharePoint pages.

Essential skills and attributes:

  • Awareness of health, safety and environmental principles.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication with confidence to interact at all levels.
  • Experience working with Microsoft 365 applications (e.g. Excel, Power Automate, Forms, SharePoint).
  • A high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and discretion when handling sensitive data.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet critical deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Experience in using systems bespoke IT management systems.
  • Familiarity with Health and safety Legislation.
  • Exposure to multi-agency or public sector environments
