Bucks take the honours under the Pines
15 August 2014
The Fire Service SAA National Team Stableford golf championship was held locally at Forest Pines Golf Club near Brigg on 29-30 July. This was the second year in succession that Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has hosted this prestigious event.
This national event takes part annually with all money raised going to The Firefighters Charity. Sponsored by Scott Safety, the competition was supported by 25 teams of four golfers from services across the UK playing over two days of stiff competition on the demanding Beeches, Pines and Forest nine hole loops.
The winners of the competition were Buckinghamshire, with Essex in second place and Mid & West Wales in third. Humberside’s team of Sean Carley, Paul Clark, Danny Hague and Paul Portlock came a creditable 8th, just six points from a podium spot.
Humberside’s leading scorer Paul Clark (71 pts) is pictured above (second from left) with his day one group
The best day one score was Spencer Lambert of Leicestershire with 37 points. The best day two score was Craig Brooks of London Fire Brigade with an impressive 40 points over the tight Forest Pines layout which, as always, was in immaculate condition.
The best combined score over the two days was the relatively local James Todd of Lincolnshire with 40 + 35 for 75 points. His and other prizes were presented by CFO Dene Sanders and Justin Harper from Scott Safety.
The organisers and competitors would like to take this opportunity to thank the main sponsor Scott Safety for their continuous support and participation in the event.
Grateful thanks also go to MKM Building Supplies, KC and Conform Safety Management who sponsored all the par 3 prizes at the event and a special mention to Ping at Gainsborough and Eastern Airways for their generosity in donating some of the main prizes.
Finally a big thank you to all the players who took part in the event which raised over £2,200 for The Firefighters Charity.
