It is with deep sadness that Humberside Fire and Rescue Service acknowledges the passing of Councillor John Briggs, Chair of Humberside Fire Authority.

For over twenty years, he dedicated himself to Humberside Fire Authority ensuring that the local communities across the Humber region were provided with an emergency response to fire, flooding and other emergency rescues, alongside blue light partners.

He started as a Fire Authority Member in 2003, progressing to Vice Chair in 2009 and holding the role of Chair since 2010. A respected figure in North Lincolnshire, he served as a Councillor for the Axholme North ward since 1999 and fulfilling roles as Mayor and Deputy Mayor within the authority area.

Councillor John Briggs

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family and friends during this sad time.

In recognition of his legacy and leadership of Humberside Fire Authority over the years, which includes the Service being rated ‘Good’ by the inspectorate in its last inspection, all Service locations with flag poles will fly at half-mast.

Vice Chair Councillor Tracey Neal will assume the responsibilities of overseeing the Authority's business until a new chair is appointed.
