How do I know what personal data is being used?

We publish Privacy Notices on our website (see How we use your data). These Privacy Notices explain what data we collect for each of the pieces of work that we carry out. The personal information we collect can be different depending on the reason that it is collected.

Can I access my personal data?

You can access the personal data that we have about you by contacting us by telephone or e-mail to dataprotection@humbersidefire.gov.uk . This is called a data subject access request. When you request access to your own personal data, we might ask you to prove your identity. This might include sending us a copy of a form of identification e.g., photograph of a passport. We may also ask you to make clear to us exactly what information you want a copy of.

You can ask someone else to request your personal data for you, however we will need proof that you have given them permission to do this.

Is there a cost for asking to see what personal data the Service holds about me?

In most cases it will not cost you anything to ask for access to your personal data. However, we might charge a reasonable fee if there is a lot of information for us to share with you and it is difficult for us to get.

Will I get copies of all my information as part of the access request?

There are some situations where you will not be allowed access to all copies of your information. These are called exemptions and are explained in the Data Protection Act 2018.

Some of these situations include:

  • if it is being used as part of a legal proceeding
  • if it involves personal data belonging to someone else
  • if it is part of a negotiation where sharing this information might impact on the results.
  • if it is part of planning by managers where sharing this information might impact on the results.
