Driver Awareness Programme changes the views of car thieves
31 May 2013
The Driver Awareness Programme (DAP) was launched by Humberside Probation Trust (HPT) and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) in North Lincolnshire on January 1, 2012.
The course aims to rehabilitate those convicted of vehicle-related offending.
Magistrates have praised the programme as a sentencing option, with every one of the 52 cases completing the programme, and a further 18 cases awaiting completion.
The programme involves classroom sessions that focus on raising awareness about the consequences of the offender’s actions, retrospectively analysing each specific incident.
There are also interactive group sessions and individual sessions with probation service managers.
