Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is proud to celebrate 10 years of Hull F.I.R.S.T. a frontline service that’s made a lasting difference to vulnerable people across Hull.
Since its launch in 2015, Hull F.I.R.S.T. (Falls Intervention Response Safety Team) has attended 9996 incidents since it began, providing compassionate, high-quality support to individuals who have fallen in their homes. The team’s work has helped reduce pressure on emergency services and improve outcomes for patients, especially through its strong partnership with the NHS.

Supporting the NHS and our communities
Hull F.I.R.S.T. is dispatched via Lifeline or NHS 111 and works closely with City Health Care Partnership (CHCP) Urgent Care Practitioners to triage patients. Upon arrival, the team assesses for injuries and hazards, gathers information about the cause of the fall, and helps avoid unnecessary ambulance call-outs and A&E visits.
But their support doesn’t stop there.
The team also carries out Home Fire Safety Checks, takes basic health observations and signposts individuals to follow-up care from the Hull and East Riding Prevention Teams, making sure people get the help they need to stay safe and independent.
The Hull F.I.R.S.T.’s success lies in its strong collaboration with health partners. By working hand-in-hand with the NHS, they’ve helped reduce hospital admissions, improve patient outcomes and support vulnerable people in their own homes.
Chief Fire Officer, Phil Shillito, said: "Celebrating 10 years of Hull F.I.R.S.T. is a proud moment for all of us. The team has supported 9,996 people across Hull and continues to grow. Each one a story of care, compassion and practical help delivered when it was needed most."
"Their work has not only improved outcomes for vulnerable individuals but also eased pressure on our partners in Health. Hull F.I.R.S.T. continues to be a shining example of what public service can achieve when driven by heart and purpose."
A decade of dedication
From just 135 incidents in their first year to over 1,000 annually in recent years, Hull F.I.R.S.T. has grown into a vital service that continues to evolve and respond to the needs of the community.
As we celebrate this milestone, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service would like to thank everyone involved in Hull F.I.R.S.T. - past and present - for their outstanding contribution to public safety and wellbeing.
