Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has formally commended a Grimsby man after his courageous actions to help save neighbouring family during a house fire.

In the early hours of Wednesday 9 July 2025, Will and his partner were awoken by commotion outside their home. When he looked outside, he discovered flames coming from his neighbour’s house.
Although the neighbouring family had managed to escape the property itself, they were trapped on the roof of the bay window with no safe way to come down.
Without hesitation, Will rushed outside and found a ladder to help his neighbours to safety.
His quick thinking, bravery and courageous actions were formally recognised today by the Service at Peaks Lane Fire Station.
Chief Fire Officer Phil Shillito praised Will’s actions, saying, “Will’s selflessness and courage reflect the very best of our community.
“His actions on that night showed remarkable bravery and humanity, and he thoroughly deserves this recognition.”
The presentation was attended by fire service staff and members of the local community. Will was commended not only for his bravery but for representing the very best of our communities.
