The week celebrates International Control Room Week (19 – 25 October 2020), which highlights the incredible work Control Room employees do across the world!

They are our unsung heroes, who are always at the end of the phone when we need help.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) Fire Control staff work around the clock answering emergency calls.

They deal first hand with people who are scared, vulnerable and sometimes in danger.

Fire Control staff are confident and highly skilled to operate in very intense, stressful environments, providing reassurance and advice to people in need, whilst mobilising fire engines and other resources to the incident.

In 2019, Fire Control took 23,411 emergency calls, dealing with a variety of incidents from house fires to road traffic collisions.

Station Manager Scott Spence-Hill, who has worked in Fire Control (South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and HFRS) for 19 years said:

“Bonfire Night is the busiest time of year, although weather conditions tend to have the main impact on the volume of calls we receive.”

Our headset heroes are truly inspirational and play an important role in keeping our communities and firefighters safe.
