Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is reminding businesses, landlords and duty holders to review their evacuation plans in line with the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022. These regulations require the Responsible Person, the employer, owner or individual in control of a building, to provide accurate evacuation procedures, floor plans and essential building safety information to Fire and Rescue Services.

Evacuation plans should include:

  • Clear evacuation routes
  • Appropriate signage
  • Simple, understandable instructions
  • Updated building information for responders
  • Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (RPEEPs) for individuals who may need support

Responsible Persons have a legal duty to ensure that all occupants can leave a building safely in an emergency.

Our Protection team encourages routine review of evacuation procedures to reflect changes in building layout, use and occupancy.
