For the 2025/26 financial year, we are asking if you would be willing to increase your contributions to help support your fire and rescue service.

Additional funding would allow us to maintain the high standard of services we currently provide, while investing in our plans to make sure we are prepared to meet future needs and risks.

Our plans for 2025 and beyond

Making sure we meet future needs while providing a modern workplace environment for our employees is a key focus of our planning. Many of our fire stations were built during the 1960s, highlighting the need for investment to meet modern standards and making our buildings are accessible to everyone.

Our plans include enhancing our options for future vehicles and equipment, alongside our ongoing commitment to reducing firefighter contamination risks and prioritising staff health and safety

This aligns with our Community Risk Management Plan, benefiting everyone across the Humber region and helping to keep us all safe.

Many homes in the Humber region are in lower Council Tax bands, so for most, the proposed increases are smaller.

We are asking for your support by selecting one of the following options:

  • Option 1: A £2.93 (2.99%) increase. This is 24p per month (£2.93 per year) on a Band D property.
  • Option 2: A £4.99 (5.09%) increase. This is 42p per month (£4.99 per year) on a Band D property.
  • Option 3: No increase.
  • Option 4: An alternative amount. Please select this option if you would like to propose a different increase.

How is your fire service funded?

We have three sources of funding that we rely on to deliver our services to the community: the precept, which is a portion of council tax raised locally; business rates, which is an amount of the locally collected business rates that are retained within the Humberside area; and grant funding from central government.

Humberside Fire Authority provides a fire and rescue service to a population of nearly 950,000 across Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, North and North East Lincolnshire. Like many public sector organisations, Humberside Fire Authority faces significant financial challenges in the years ahead. We are working hard to maintain a high standard of service while managing costs effectively. Without an increase in the council tax precept, further reductions in the services we provide may need to be considered.
