Annual Accounts for 2015/16 signed-off in record time

In partnership with the Fire Authority’s external auditor, KPMG, the Finance team from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service have completed the 2015/16 Annual Accounts in record time.

The external audit and sign-off of the Annual Accounts for 2015/16 was completed on 31 July which is two months earlier than previous years. This year’s process has been undertaken to ensure procedures are adequate and can facilitate the production and audit of the Annual Accounts to an earlier 31 July deadline that will be statutorily introduced in 2018. Timely and sound financial information is the bedrock of good governance and allows the Service to focus on delivering a first-class service to its communities.

This achievement means that the Service’s 2015/16 Accounts sign-off will be notably earlier than many other principal bodies (e.g. Local Authorities, Fire and Police). Based on the performance of 509 principal bodies in 2014/15, it would put the Service in the top 5%. Only 23 out of 509 principal bodies achieved their final 2014/15 audit opinion on or before 31 July last year.

Work will now commence to look at lessons learnt so that this excellent performance can be sustained for the 2016/17 Annual Accounts.
