Following this morning's fire and explosion at a property on Beverley Road in Hull, Fire Investigation Officers have worked all day with Humberside Police and other agencies to ascertain the cause and origin of the fire.

Humberside Police have now released a statement:

"Sadly a 31-year-old man has died at Hull Royal Infirmary following a serious house fire at a flat on Beverley Road, Hull this morning (Friday 10 March) and his family have been supported by specially trained officers.

We have conducted a joint investigation with Humberside Fire and Rescue Service into the circumstances and it is not being treated as arson.

The man’s death is currently being treated non-suspicious but unexplained and we are now preparing a file for the coroner."

Background:

We were initially called by Humberside Fire and Rescue Service at 6.23am which led to road closures in the area.

Two firefighters attended Hull Royal Infirmary with minor injuries. [After a precautionary check-up, they were released]
