It was all smiles at Humberside Fire and Rescue Service's Support and Education Centre this week as 12 students passed out after gaining their BTEC level 2 certificates.

The group, made up of five students from Rise Academy and seven from the Learning Sanctuary Programme (LSP) gave a demonstration of some of the core skills they had learnt to special guests including Chair of Humberside Fire Authority Councillor John Briggs and Group Manager of Public Safety North Allen Cunningham.

The LRP students were made up of various nationalities including Spaniards, Iranians, Romanians and Poles for whom English is a second language.

One of the Poles to shine was Claudia (pictured with John Briggs and GM Cunningham) who was delighted with her 'Student of the Course' award.

The 12 week course has taught the BTEC students effective teamwork and communications skills, problem solving skills and team building. They have had input from Fire Service instructors, first aid trainers and even the K9 fire dog investigation team.
