‘Holding out for a hero’ – send in your nomination

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is asking members of the public to nominate their local hero. The winner will be chosen by public vote and will be honoured at the Service’s eighth annual Community Awards on Thursday 24 November 2016. This year’s Local Hero award has been sponsored by BP and it’s a great pleasure to have their continued support at our annual event.

Last year’s winner was ex-Firefighter Paul Fisher of Withernsea who was praised for saving a surfer who was unconscious in the sea after coming off his board in March 2015.

Members of the public are being asked to think of someone they know, which could be a family member, friend or colleague who they feel has acted in a heroic manner and is deserving of receiving the Local Hero Award.

Although Paul’s award was for his selfless bravery in rescuing the surfer from the sea and administering CPR, nominations could be for quick thinking actions in any situation such as a road traffic collision, medical response or simply for people who just make a positive difference to others through their actions.

Ros Barbour, organiser of this year’s Community Awards for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, said: “This annual event celebrates the achievements of staff, partners and the public who have contributed to creating safer communities. For the Local Hero award, we are asking people to nominate someone they think has acted in a manner befitting the title of Local Hero.”

Nominations can be submitted to Humberside Fire and Rescue Service by filling in this form or by sending a letter to:
