Yesterday’s launch event, hosted at Immingham West Fire Station, was attended by Mayor Jane Longcake, Air Products, and the proud families of our Fire Cadets.

The Humberside Fire and Rescue Service's Cadet programme provides young people with the opportunity to engage with their local fire service and to explore the many different careers that the Service can offer.

It also gives them a taste of what it is like to be part of a uniformed organisation. The programme has been designed specifically to improve core skills including teamwork, communication, and initiative. Through this impactful programme, the cadets can gain the ‘National Fire Cadet Award, Level 1’ of which can be progressed further in the following years.

Sarah Wilkinson, Head of Prevention at HFRS said, "We are delighted to offer a Fire Cadet programme for those in and around Immingham, and we are deeply grateful to Air Products for their generous support, which has been crucial in launching this new initiative.

"The dedication and expertise of our Fire Cadet instructors will be instrumental in shaping the future of these young cadets. This programme not only equips them with essential life-saving skills but also empowers them to make meaningful contributions to their communities. I hope this is just the beginning for many, inspiring them to pursue careers that serve and strengthen our communities.

Lee Cuthbert, Stallinborough, Senior Plant Supervisor from Air Products said, “We are incredibly proud to be supporting the new Immingham Fire Cadets scheme which will provide young people in the area a tremendous opportunity to develop essential life skills and qualifications.

"Humberside Fire and Rescue provides a vital service to the community, which includes our existing facilities in Stallingborough and Hull as well as our plans for a renewable hydrogen facility in Immingham. The Cadets are an excellent initiative and we really wanted to be involved to make a positive impact on young people and their families in this area."

Air Products, who’ve been operating in the Humber for four decades supplying industrial gases to local industry, plan to build a world-scale renewable hydrogen facility in Immingham.
