Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is asking members of the public to nominate their local hero. The winner will be chosen by public vote and will be honoured at the Service’s seventh annual Community Awards on Thursday 24 September, 2015.
Last year’s winner was joiner Duncan Kirk of Keyingham who was praised for his bravery in saving a disabled man from a house fire in Norton Grove, Hull.
Members of the public are being asked to think of someone they know, which could be a family member, friend or colleague who they feel has acted in a heroic manner and is deserving of receiving the Local Hero Award – once again kindly sponsored by DFDS.
Although Duncan’s award was for his selfless bravery at a house fire, nominations could be for quick thinking actions in any situation such as a road traffic collision, water rescue or medical response or simply for people who just make a really positive difference to others through their actions.’
Katrina Goodhand, organiser of the Community Awards for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, said:
‘There will be a number of different awards given at the ceremony to members of the public, our partners and staff in recognition of the contribution they have made in creating safer communities. For the Local Hero Award, we are asking people to nominate someone they think has acted in a manner befitting the title of ‘Local Hero’.’
