Matt joined HFRS in June 2001, and his first posting was to Blue Watch at Immingham West Fire Station. Since then he has been in a variety of roles throughout the Service covering Operational, Public Safety, Training and Corporate Services. He was promoted to the role of Area Manager of Service Improvement earlier this year.

In his new role he will be supporting the Chief Fire Officer in providing strategic leadership, influencing the vision and direction of the fire and rescue service across four local authorities, covering a population of over 930,000 in urban, rural, and coastal communities.

Commenting on his appointment, Matt said: “I’m really looking forward to progressing the great work the Service is doing to deliver an effective and efficient fire service to the communities across the Humber region.

“The Service has been rated Good across the board in its recent inspection process and this is down to the hard work and commitment our staff demonstrates daily by keeping our communities safe and looking for innovate ways to provide a lifesaving service.”

Phil Shillito, HFRS Chief Fire Officer, commented: “I’m delighted to announce the appointment of Matt as our Assistant Chief Fire Officer.

“We had an extremely robust selection process, with a high number of very high-quality applicants, both internally and externally. I would like to thank all the applicants and also the representatives of our partner organisations who assisted us with the selection process and wish Matt all the best in his new role.”
