Humberside Fire and Rescue’s Twitter account has hit 10,000 followers just over four years since its launch.
The milestone means that Humberside (HFRS) has now joined many of the UK’s larger services in having a five figure following. Since the popularity of social media exploded in the late ‘noughties’, HFRS has embraced both Twitter and Facebook to provide an informative, up to date and sometimes entertaining stream of fire safety messages, cross agency news, incident briefings and other news affecting the region.
The tidal surge and subsequent flooding around the Humber region in December 2013 saw a massive increase in the Twitter following as residents across both banks of the river saw the benefit of getting up to the minute information of road closures, flood risks and important safety messages. Around 1,000 followers were added almost overnight and that figure has risen steadily during 2014. As @HumbersideFire hits the 10,000 mark, the number of Facebook likes currently stands at a healthy 5,165.
To mark the milestone, a short video has been made which shows HFRS training facilities at its Summergroves Way headquarters, including the impressive new 15 metre working at height tower with its special message!
