Contract Type: A commitment of four hours per month to attend training, plus availability to work as required, during periods of industrial action, subject to service need.

Pay:   £13.18 per hour during initial period of training

            £26.36 per hour for deployment during industrial action

            Travelling expenses at £0.45/Mile

            £1943 annual retainer payable monthly

Location: Humberside Fire & Rescue Service Headquarters, Summergroves way, Hull, HU4 7BB and various locations within the Humberside region

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Contingency Control Crew (CCC), helping to protect local communities across the East Riding of Yorkshire, Hull, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire during periods of industrial action.

The role involves mobilising operational fire crews to incidents such as fires and road traffic collisions, playing a vital part in supporting emergency response and helping to save lives across Humberside.

There may be occasions where you are required to work two consecutive shifts of up to 12 hours each. This means a CCC member could work for up to 24 hours, with appropriate rest periods included. You will receive an intensive initial training programme, ongoing support, and work as part of a team alongside people you train with.

Training - Applicants must be available to attend an initial training as required

Ongoing training commitments include:

  • Participation in continuous training to maintain competence, including theory sessions, exercises, and refresher activities
  • Attendance at training sessions with a minimum requirement of four hours per month 

Minimum requirements: 

You are required to:

  • Undertake an interview
  • Undertake practical aptitude-based assessments
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills
  • Be IT literate
  • Remain calm, professional and compassionate under pressure 

Successful applicants will be required to complete a Basic Disclosure (DBS) check and provide suitable references.

Please note: This is not a full-time Control Room Operator position. The role exists exclusively to provide emergency cover during staff shortages as a result of industrial action.
