Following the Humberside Fire Authority's meeting on 28 March 2025, Members approved the release and sale of Cromwell Road Fire Station.
The revenue generated from the sale will be reinvested into the Service’s ambitious capital programme, running from 2025–2026 to 2029–2030. This includes a significant multi-million-pound investment in Grimsby, highlighted by the extensive refurbishment of Peaks Lane Fire Station, which was approved by Fire Authority members in November 2024.
To ensure continued support for community groups that use Cromwell Road Fire Station, the Service will actively engage with them and offer guidance on alternative Service premises or partner agencies that can accommodate their needs.
The decision regarding Cromwell Road is based on thorough analysis of historical data. In 2014, the Fire Authority approved the merger of Cromwell Road and Peaks Lane fire stations in Grimsby. As a result, on 1 April 2014, one fire engine was removed from service at Cromwell Road Fire Station, and the remaining engine was relocated to Peaks Lane Fire Station.
A decision was made to maintain all three fire engines at Peaks Lane Fire Station from 7am to 10.30pm and during the overnight standby period (10:30 pm – 7:30 am), one engine from Peaks Lane would be moved to Cromwell Road and respond from there throughout the night.
Following a comprehensive review of the relocation arrangement, including updated data and advanced risk analysis tools, data shows that returning the third fire engine to Peaks Lane for a full 24-hour period will not negatively affect our response capabilities in the area.
It’s important to note that since the Fire Authority’s decision in 2014, the Service has had access to an additional 10 years of data, processed using more accurate and up-to-date software.
