Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday.
Most people won't be fasting for Lent, but nowadays it is a day when children can get very excited in the kitchen and help parents prepare the batter and then cook pancakes before the key moment arrives - the toss!
Whilst Humberside Fire and Rescue don't want to spoil any fun, statistics suggest that around half of all house fires start in the kitchen. Follow our general advice on cooking fire safety by clicking here to stay safe this Pancake Day. This will help ensure that the worst that might happen is having to remove a pancake from the kitchen ceiling!
Please keep pets well clear of the kitchen and always supervise children in and around the cooker. Please don't leave cooking unattended and be careful of hot oil spitting and causing burns.
