A major incident has been declared after initial calls were received by Humberside Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) at 15:30 on 24 November 2021, to a business property in Priory Tech Park, Hessle.

Hessle incident

A Humber Tactical Coordinating Group was stood up at 17:00 with other agencies to monitor the situation and issue advice to the public, businesses and organisations affected as necessary.

HFRS continues to respond to the fire and currently has 10 fire engines, one Aerial Ladder Platform and two special units (water support and incident command unit) in attendance.

Jason Kirby, Director of People and Development at Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, said “Our firefighters are continuing to make good progress to tackle the fire. Our multi-agency partners are working with us to resolve the incident and these include Humberside Police, UK Health Security Agency and Environment Agency who are working with us to minimise any impact on the environment. Local residents may notice low water pressure and possible discoloration, and this is because local water authorities are diverting water for the incident, please do not be alarmed if you experience this with your water supply.

“Residents in areas affected by the smoke should stay indoors, keep their doors and windows closed, and check for updates on our twitter feed @HumbersideFire.”

Drivers are advised to avoid the area and take care if they are driving nearby on the A63, and should keep windows closed, turn off air conditioning and keep their air vents closed.

Humberside Police has cordoned off the following roads and there is also no foot access over Livingstone Road foot bridge, roads affected are:

  • Priory Way with Saxon Way
  • Hull Road with Hessle Road roundabout
  • Hull Road with Buttfield Road
  • Ferry Road

Drivers should keep tuned to local radio and check our twitter feed @HumbersideFire for further road updates ahead of the morning rush hour.

Update 06:30 25 November

Jason Kirby, Director of People and Development at Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, updated on the current situation, “Our crews and partner agencies have made significant progress throughout the night and brought the fire under control. We will remain onsite today, continuing to dampen down and to monitor the incident, along with partner agencies Humberside Police, UK Health Security Agency and Environment Agency who are working with us to minimise any impact on the environment.

“The significant progress they have made by working throughout the night has meant there is now little disruption to those living and working in the area. We have reopened Priory Way and Saxon Way and local residents who were initially evacuated due to their close proximity to the incident, have been able to safely return home.”

Humberside Police have in place a couple of road closures this morning and these are currently on Buttfield Road area.

Livingstone Road reopened mid morning.

Hull Park and Ride from Priory Park is open and operating as usual.

Thank you for your patience whilst emergency services continue to respond to this incident.
