Our Fire Cadets are celebrating International Women’s Day through helping tackle period poverty and promoting gender equality, in line with this year’s theme, ‘Accelerating Action.’

Natalie Simm, EDI and Communications Officer at Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said, "International Women’s Day gives us the opportunity to not only celebrate women's achievements in the Service, but also take real action to support gender equality."

At Goole Fire Station, our Fire Cadets are making a difference by gathering and donating period products to Goole Library as part of the local ‘Collecting for Jacqui’ campaign.

This campaign provides free sanitary products to women and girls in need. Aiming to removing obstacles to education and wellbeing, as nearly 50% of young girls in the UK miss school due to period poverty.

Those in need of free sanitary products in Goole can visit Goole Library, where items will be available discreetly.

Sarah Wilkinson, Head of Prevention at Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said, “This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the dedication of our Fire Cadets and Instructors, whose commitment not only fosters life-saving skills but also uplifts and supports girls and women through meaningful social outreach.

“I am so proud to see our cadets step up to help tackle period poverty in their community by raising awareness of the challenges many women and girls still face today. Their work is a powerful reminder of how young people can make a real difference in their communities, shaping a safer, more inclusive future for all.”
