Our dedicated staff are currently participating in an extraordinary fundraising event, the Challenge 50, in support of The Fire Fighters Charity.
The Challenge 50, a unique and demanding fundraiser, was the idea of Claire Reed and Darren Gladstone, two On-Call Firefighters from Driffield Fire Station, who put community at the heart of everything they do, including supporting our own fire service community.
Participants are taking on the gruelling task of completing a 5K distance every 5 hours over a 50-hour period, either as individuals or in teams. This test of endurance and perseverance reflects the dedication and resilience that Humberside Fire and Rescue Service staff bring to their work every day.
The final leg of the Challenge 50 will take place at 12 noon today (28 September) and coincides with the Driffield Fire Station Open Day, running from 11 am to 3 pm. The event offers a fantastic opportunity for the public to show their support, meet the firefighters and learn more about the work they do.
“We’re incredibly proud of our staff who are pushing themselves to the limit for such a worthy cause,” said Phil Shillito, Chief Fire Officer. “The Fire Fighters Charity provides vital support to our staff and their families, and it’s wonderful to see everyone coming together to give back.”
The Fire Fighters Charity offers invaluable assistance to active and retired fire service staff and their families, providing mental, physical, and social support.
